Osasuna rallies from behind to defeat Real Oviedo 3-2

A stoppage-time goal from forward Víctor Muñoz gives Los Rojillos the three points

Club Atlético Osasuna (6-4-10, 22 points) rallied from behind to defeat Real Oviedo (2-7-11, 13 points) 3-2 with a stoppage time goal by forward Víctor Muñoz at El Sadar on Saturday afternoon. The Asturian side took the lead twice in the game, but forward Ante Budimir answered each of the goals to set the stage for Víctor to seal the win.

The first half opened with both teams creating dangerous chances in the opposing penalty area. Goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was first called into action, parrying an angled shot from inside the box, before goalkeeper Aarón Escandell denied Osasuna with a save from Víctor's close-range effort. As the minutes passed, Osasuna took greater control of the match, and midfielder Aimar Oroz had a clear chance, but his shot from inside the area sailed over the crossbar. Budimir also went close after a fine cross from defender Javi Galán, but the Croatian striker’s attempt went wide.

The rhythm of the game was disrupted by repeated fouls and stoppages from Real Oviedo, and the visitors took the lead late in the half when forward Federico Viñas scored with a header from a corner kick. Osasuna responded immediately and appeared to equalize on the following play, but the referee disallowed the goal for handball by Budimir, who had been pushed by a visiting defender. Neither the referee nor VAR deemed the action worthy of a penalty. Budimir eventually leveled the score in the 45th minute, rising to head home another cross from Galán.

Real Oviedo began the second half with several threatening attacks, forcing Herrera into two saves. Osasuna answered with a chance of its own from a corner kick, but midfielder Lucas Torró’s header went wide. Budimir then struck the crossbar with a powerful header, and on the ensuing play Real Oviedo regained the lead when midfielder Alberto Reina scored from another corner.

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci made a triple substitution, and shortly afterward the hosts equalized from a set piece. Defender Enzo Boyomo flicked the ball on for Budimir, who scored his second goal of the match. Roared on by the crowd at El Sadar, Osasuna pushed for a winner and created several chances, including a double effort blocked by the visiting defense and a long-range shot from midfielder Iker Muñoz that missed the target.

The decisive moment came in the third minute of stoppage time, when Víctor sent El Sadar into celebration by scoring from close range after a rebound inside the area.

Osasuna will prepare to visit Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, Jan. 24, in Week 21 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (1 p.m. GMT/8 a.m. ET).
